WaterCAD 2024 Help

Identifying Which DMA Boundaries are Meters

Once a DMA has been identified, the user may want to run some simulations of the system with the meters and closed boundaries to check pressures and fire flows. To do this, the closed boundaries need to have their "Status (Initial)" set to Closed.

The user should decide which of the Boundary elements will be flow meters and which will be closed valves. Usually, only one or two Boundaries are metered, and they are usually the ones with the strongest connection to the water source. The closed pipes should have their "Status (Initial)" set to Closed in the Initial Status alternative. There must be at least one Boundary that is not set to Closed or the nodes within the DMA will be disconnected.

To Select which are to be closed boundaries, the user can manually set the Status (Initial) to Closed. The user can also select a DMA, pick the Boundary Element tab in the bottom pane, pick Select in Drawing, open a pipe FlexTable using "Open on Selection" and Close all elements except for the one(s) that represent the meter.
